Meet the Element DJs
We are three young, dynamic DJs who met through our work in the wedding industry. We’ve used our combined experience of over 1000 weddings to create a service that we think you’ll love.
Neil
I’ve been DJing for over 20 years.
My love for music is undeniable. From RnB to House & Garage, Disco, Motown, Indie or Pop – whatever you’re into, you can bet I will have the perfect playlist for your wedding.
Growing up in Hackney, London, I got my first big break with London-based radio station Xtreme FM, playing the best in RnB, House and UK garage.
After working the club scene for a number of years, I went on to start up my own DJ business covering London, Essex and Hertfordshire.
In the past 5 years alone, I’ve DJed over 250 weddings whilst regularly DJing for Venezia in London where I held a residency, ending only due to Covid.
I love a good wedding. Everyone is happy. Everyone is ready to party and I love being able to mix in and out of different genres to suit everyone’s musical tastes.
But most of all, I love the challenge of getting every single person on the dance floor throughout the night. When Auntie Maude is cutting some serious shapes on the dance floor - I know my work here is done.
Tom
I've worked full time in the music industry my entire working life and have been a professional wedding DJ for the past 9 years. I started out as a session guitarist and guitar teacher in my teens. I gained a BSc degree in Audio Recording and Production, and started my career as a freelance audio engineer, working with Platinum selling artists and local unsigned musicians alike.
I met the owner of a successful wedding DJ agency in 2011 and began working with them closely, mainly as a roadie and technician while DJing in my spare time. By 2018, I was DJing 100 weddings per year and fell in love with making a crowd of people go nuts to their favourite tracks.
I've DJ'd at weddings all over the UK, from Cornwall to Edinburgh and every major city in between. I've also performed at several weddings sharing the decks with UK Garage legends DJ Luck and MC Neat. I LOVE House, Garage and Drum 'n' Bass but I haven't forgotten my rock roots!
What I love about this line of work is bringing people together on the dancefloor through music. Bringing back all those memories, all the nostalgia. There’s nothing like the feeling of driving home after a wedding where everyone left with beaming smiles and the couple couldn’t stop thanking you. It’s the best job in the world.
Kieran
My goal is to create an atmosphere at your wedding that reminds you why music is so important.
I started off as a musician playing for many live bands as a drummer, working the late nights up and down the country. I began to find my sense of accomplishment in making music and creating times of enjoyment that people can remember for years to come. I then started working in the club scene as a DJ. Over these 3 years I worked in London and at the beach bars in Ibiza. This is where I learnt many skills: how to control a crowd and how you can create a setting through music.
This is why I decided to transition to weddings. Tailoring your wedding reception specifically to you, creating a vibe that gives you memories that will last a lifetime. I worked with a UK wedding DJ agency for 2 years, covering 70+ weddings a year for couples up and down the country, performing in the most incredible venues. I fell in Love with helping couples shape their big day. This is where Element was born!
Our approach to song choice, mixing and being a Professional Wedding DJ
Neil: Being a great wedding DJ isn’t just about playing music. Exceptional service begins from the moment you click on our website to the moment you finish your last dance. Exceptional service isn’t a “nice to have”, it’s a must.
Tom: A passion for music isn’t enough to make you a standout performer. You need knowledge of harmony, melody, keys, metre, tempo, arrangement, EQ (as well as a vast knowledge of artists and tracks!). They will know how to transition from one genre to the next, from one mood to another, and they will mix between songs using techniques that keep your guests in the zone.
Kieran: The ability to read the crowd is key. When the dancefloor tells you something and you react in just the right way, the room can explode. The result is non-stop dancing and a wave of nostalgia: memories of clubbing with your friends, memories of growing up with your siblings, memories of your parents’ favourite tunes from back in the day. We want you, your friends and your family to remember the incredible atmosphere at your wedding.
Neil: Your music request form is super important. We use this as a blueprint, aiming to play all the bride and groom’s favourite tunes and as many guest requests as possible throughout the night.
Tom: Weddings are unique in that there are people from different generations and backgrounds sharing the dancefloor. It really matters that your DJ is experienced in weddings and not just clubs and casual parties where crowds are more forgiving and less is at stake. Sometimes there are lulls after the buffet or maybe your guests are a little shy. A DJ should have plenty of tricks up their sleeve to turn the situation around.
Kieran: What if you and your guests’ music tastes differ wildly? You want to hear your favourite music on your wedding day, but you also want a great party where everyone is dancing and having a good time. It’s in tricky situations like these where an experienced wedding DJ is needed to make the call and talk to the couple on the night to make sure they are happy with whatever direction the music is going in.
Neil: You want to see your DJ having a good time. If they’re having a good time during their set, the energy and charisma will rub off on your guests. You don’t want them talking on the mic constantly (you’ve booked a DJ, not a stand-up comedian) - ultimately, you need them to be confident and well spoken when they do.
Tom: We innovate and listen to couples’ needs. The music people want to hear at their wedding today is totally different to 20 years ago. Light and sound technology has improved. The way people want their wedding to look has changed too. Couples expect a higher level of service and that’s what we deliver.
